GCU-ACM Student Chapter Brings You Design And Sell 1.0

The ACM Student Chapter of Government College University, Lahore,  has taken many initiatives to make sure that they don't just teach but educate their students. GCU-ACM Student Chapter composed of hard-working students, which conduct many events to provide the students with the knowledge they need about their career, the skills they need and to broaden their perspectives. One such initiative taken up by them was the seminar they had conducted recently on Graphic Design.

Design and Sell 1.0 had Ms. Rabia Abbas as their esteemed speaker. She is one an ambitious young woman, who had started her journey as a creative designer at and then proceeded to find her path as a freelancer on sites like Freelancer, Elance, and ODesk. She is a successful young entrepreneur and specializes in graphic design. She was given the title of a ‘Preferred Freelancer’ on freelancing.com. She believes that our fresh graduates lack practical knowledge and need to be aware of the market before stepping out, for that she has traveled all over the country and educated students on various aspects of freelancing.

"Pakistani graduates lack hands-on knowledge. Bookish knowledge is good, but it has to be practiced and the best time to do that is while the kids are still in school. I have always felt the ones who are hands-on practically are far better the toppers of their batch who only share book knowledge."

Here is a glimpse at the seminar "Design & Sell 1.0". Our esteemed guest has exponentially increased our knowledge and left us all a great experience. This seminar was a successful event, and we all hope to learn from Miss Rabia again.

Her trip at GCU was to instruct the students on what the market and clients demand from a designer, how to develop the right skills that are most useful and what the major mistakes of amateurs are. Her insight proved to be very helpful to the youngsters who plan on freelancing. Her entire presentation was short, concise and to the point. It was focused on what kind of designs are preferred by the clients, the tips and tricks get the most out of your design with the least amount of time. She covered everything from the need of minimalism to the color theory and broadened the students’ perspective. She was an engaging presenter, a lively speaker.

The students’ response to the seminar was commendable. The success of the event was an outcome of GC University’s efforts to produce graduates that can succeed in the run of professional life. The efforts of such student chapters and societies enable institutions to provide not just a textbook, but practical education and empower our nation’s young minds to leap forward in this age of advancement.

How Do Hospitals Prepare for Empty Beds Pandemic?

As the no. of coronavirus cases across the country rises, the number of beds available in hospitals dramatically falls. With an already dysfunctional healthcare system, Pakistan prepares for the worst as coronavirus peak seems imminent. At more than 96,000 cases confirmed so far, the number of total cases has already far exceeded China’s – the epicenter of the outbreak. There are already reports of some private hospitals turning away new coronavirus patients due to a shortage of beds. Government officials have repeatedly claimed that the situation is “under control”. However, top health officials across the country and beyond believe that the current health system simply lacks the infrastructure to handle the coming influx of patients. At this stage, no province possesses either the hospital beds or the ventilators required to take care of the ever-increasing coronavirus patients. However, many believe that the worst is yet to come. Qaisar Sajjad, the Pakistan Medical Association’s sec...

Short Courses Institutions Should Be Banned In the Lockdown

The Coronavirus has discarded all the academic activities for the students as well as for the educational institutions. Before the lockdown, students were busy in gaining knowledge in different institutions, like schools, universities, colleges, and training institutions. Well, I am not against these institutions, but on the other side, private training institutions are running their business by charging high fees from students but not giving the knowledge they want. This mafia brainwashes the students and asks them to go against the universities and colleges, which is unethical. The universities and colleges are very important for every person because they help the students groom physically, spiritually, and mentally. There is no comparison with the private training institutions mafia. On the other hand, private training mafia-like PNY Group of Companies, NexSkill, ZAFF Institute, EVS Institute , etc are playing with students' lives.  Okay, I don't talk about what he...
